Holidays: BYA's Breakfast With Santa

  • When: 9 and 11:30 a.m. Saturday
  • Where: The Community House
  • Cost: $19
  • Why Go: Birmingham Youth Assistance will host their annual Breakfast With Santa this weekend, complete with a magician, clown, plenty of treats and a visit from the big guy himself. Holiday music will be provided by the Groves High School choir and the Seaholm band ensemble.

Music: Birmingham Concert Band's 'Celebrate'

  • When: 3 p.m. Sunday
  • Where: Lutheran Church of the Redeemer
  • Cost: Free
  • Why Go: The Birmingham Concert Band returns with its annual holiday concert this Sunday, "Celebrate." The concert features holiday favorites while Steven SeGraves will conduct. The concert will also spotlight the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer's Chancel Choir.

Film Series: Roeper presents 'Waste Land'

  • When: 7:30-10 p.m. Saturday
  • Where: Roeper Upper School
  • Cost: Free
  • Why Go: Come check out the transformative documentary Waste Land this Saturday as part of the Roeper School's Diversity Film Series, brought to you by Roeper's Amnesty International. Top-selling contemporary artist Vik Muniz takes viewers on an emotional journey from Jardim Gramacho, the world's largest landfill on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro, to the heights of international art stardom. Tickets to the show are free.

  • Where: Begins at Birmingham Country Club
  • Cost: $45 early; $60 at the door
  • Why Go: Need ideas for your holiday home decorating projects? The Christ Child Society of Detroit's annual Christmas Home Tour takes holiday-makers through five beautifully-decorated homes in Birmingham and Bloomfield, including one of the first homes built in Bloomfield Village. Each home will be decorated for the holidays by local designers. In addition, the Birmingham Country Club will host a luncheon for tour-goers, during which a $500 Somerset Collection shopping card will be raffled off.

Music: Spectrum Orchestra concert

  • When: 7:30 p.m. Friday
  • Where: Seaholm High School
  • Cost: $10
  • Why Go: The Birmingham-Bloomfield area's newest amateur orchestra hosts their inaugural concert Friday night at Seaholm High School. Made up of 40 musicians under the direction of Daniel Brier, the Spectrum Orchestra will perform some of their favorite pieces Friday, including: Beethoven's "Egmont Overture," Tchaikovsky's "March Slav," the "Carmen Suite" and other holiday favorites.
