The Community House Announces Summer Theatre Camps

Birmingham's Community House is offering a slate of summer theatre camps for students of all ages.

Have your kids always dreamed of becoming an actor or actress, but you're not sure how to help them live out that dream?

Come to Birmingham's Community House, which will be offering a line-up of theatre camp this summer for all ages and skill levels.

Junior Division Theatre Camp

  • Grades: 3-7
  • Length: 2 weeks
  • Price: $478
  • Sessions: June 17-28 (Show: June 27); July 8-19 (Show: July 18); July 22-Aug. 2 (Show: Aug. 1)
  • Times: 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
  • More: Be a part of a complete musical theatre show at the Junior Division Theatre Camp. All musical theatre elements will be taught: singing, dancing and acting. Campers are guaranteed lines in the show and there are advanced opportunities for the older, advanced or returning students. There are large and small group scenes and songs. Ensemble work is emphasized. Learn about the theatre, how to put on a musical, play games and have a lot of fun while doing it.

Senior Division Theatre Camp

  • Grades: 7-12
  • Length: 2 weeks
  • Price: $478
  • Sessions: June 17-28 (Show: June 27); July 8-19 (Show: July 18); July 22-Aug. 2 (Show: Aug. 1)
  • Times: 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
  • More: If you are an actor, singer or dancer who has attended other camps or has had some previous theatre training, this camp is for you. The camp consists of scene study and character analysis, as well as theatrical games and historical theatre study. All will have character parts in the Senior Division scene work. Part of the day improves the actor's skills while the rest of the day consists of putting together a musical revue. The camp is directed by Joey Albright, an associate artist with the Purple Rose Theatre. 

Cabaret Camp

  • Grades: 7-12
  • Length: 1 week
  • Price: $278
  • Session: Aug. 5-9 (Show: Aug. 9)
  • Times: 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
  • More: Cabaret Camp consists of a week of singing and dancing for the intermediate or advanced vocalist who has attended a Junior or Senior camp. Other students may be admitted by permission. Cmap includes an emphasis on technique, style, projection, interpretation and musicality. Solo as well as group work will be emphasized. Many musical styles will be included in the final performances. The camp is directed by Debbie Tedrick. 

Get Into the Act: Summer Theatre Camp

  • Ages: 5-7 years old
  • Length: 1 week
  • Price: $128
  • Session: Aug. 5-9
  • Times: 10 a.m.-noon
  • More: This camp will unleash your child's imagination through theatre games, music, characterization, crafts and more. Get Into the Act is designed to educate, inspire, empower and create. The camp is directed by Jennifer George.
