Feature Photo: LOL'ing at the Greenleaf Trust Building

The city's newest art installation at the corner of Maple and Peabody was designed by Kirk Newman.

If you see two long-legged people heading toward Woodward Avenue in a hurry, don't be fooled: the sight is merely Birmingham's latest art installation, "L.O.L."

The art piece, from famed sculptor Kirk Newman, is located at the corner of Maple and Peabody, in front of the now one-year-old Greenleaf Trust building. The piece is on long-term loan from Catalyst Development Co.

Love the sculpture. Would it be better placed in the front of the building, facing Woodward? Much better exposure, but would it be a traffic hazzard? Carolyn Butcher

Love it! Great Public Art is what differentiates Birmingham from other communities! It deserves public support. Kudos to the Public Arts Board, Catalyst Development, the artist Kirk Newman, the City and everyone who helped make it happen. Kathy Walgren
