DIA Downtown: Dutch Artist's Merry Wedding Scene

Dutch artist's painting is one of seven works on display in downtown Birmingham this fall.

A digital reproduction of The Wedding Dance from 1566 by Pieter Bruegel the Elder decorates the side of a building at 275 E. Maple Rd. The piece is part of the Detroit Institute of Arts' (DIA) Inside|Out program which takes art reproductions to the streets of suburban Detroit communities.

This is what the DIA had to say about The Wedding Dance:

The entire village has come out to celebrate has come out to celebrate a wedding. When this painting was made, it was customary to keep the newly married couple apart during wedding festivities. We're not sure where the groom is, but artist Pieter Bruegel places the bride directly in the center of the merry dance. See if you can find her; she wears a black dress with her long red hair loose around her shoulds.
