New Titles at the Baldwin Public Library

New at Baldwin Public Library this week include Neil Gaiman's recent novel and the latest suspense story from Janet Evanovich and Lee Goldberg.

Need a little action, suspense or adventure to get you through the week? The Baldwin Public Library has just what you need with the latest batch of new arrivals. This week's Library Picks are:

The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman:  It began for our narrator forty years ago when the family lodger stole their car and committed suicide in it, stirring up ancient powers best left undisturbed. Dark creatures from beyond the world are on the loose, and it will take everything our narrator has just to stay alive: there is primal horror here, and menace unleashed - within his family and from the forces that have gathered to destroy it. His only defense is three women, on a farm at the end of the lane. The youngest of them claims that her duckpond is ocean. The oldest can remember the Big Bang.

The Heist by Janet Evanovich and Lee Goldberg: Just when it seems that international crook Nicolas Fox has been captured for good, he pulls off his greatest con of all: he convinces the FBI to offer him a job, working side by side with Special Agent Kate O'Hare. Problem is, teaming up to stop a corrupt investment banker who's hiding on a private island in Indonesia is going to test O'Hare's patience and Fox's skill -- if the two don't kill each other first.

The 9th Girl by Tami Hoag: Minneapolis investigators Sam Kovac and Nikki Liska find themselves in pursuit of a serial killer whose latest victim is a bullied adolescent who desperately sought a normal life.

Quartet (DVD): The rumor circling the halls is that Beecham House (the home for retired musicians) is soon to play host to a new resident. Word is, it's a star. Reginald, Wilfred and Cecily are in for a special shock when the new arrival turns out to be none other than their former singing partner, Jean. Her subsequent career as a star soloist, and the ego that accompanied it, split up their long friendship and ended her marriage to Reggie, who takes the news of her arrival particularly hard.

Side Effects (DVD): A young woman's world unravels when a drug prescribed by her psychiatrist has unexpected side effects.
