What's Open and Closed in Birmingham on Veterans Day

What you need to know about today's wreath-laying ceremony, as well as what's open and closed.

Today is Veterans Day, when we remember and honor those who served and continue to serve in all branches of the U.S. military. Birmingham will honor the day with the annual wreath-laying ceremony at Shain Park at 11 a.m. Monday morning.

What's Open?

  • City Hall remains open, and the Birmingham City Commission will meet at 7:30 p.m. Check out the agenda.
  • The Baldwin Public Library also will be open for regular hours, and will host Babytime Story Time for children up to 18 months old at 10 a.m., and an eResource Drop-In Session at 7 p.m.
  • The Birmingham Public Schools are open.
  • Most shops, restaurants and grocery stores will have regular hours, and some will even offer specials in honor of members of the U.S. military


What's Closed?

  • The U.S. Post Office will be closed all day and there is no mail delivery.
  • Federal Buildings and offices are closed.
  • Most area banks will be closed Monday, with normal business hours resuming Tuesday.
