Police Investigate Assault at the Townsend; Car Fire on Cole

The Birmingham Police Department provided the following information. Arrests, where they are mentioned, do not indicate conviction.

 

Officers with the Birmingham Police Department arrested a 28-year-old Los Angeles man for allegedly assaulting a woman at the Townsend Hotel last week, police reports said. 

The woman told officers that he shoved her in the upper chest area at about 2:30 a.m. May 17. No injuries were reported.

The officers questioned the man, who said he was drunk and didn't remember, and issued a citation for misdemeanor assault. Authorities released him on bond and he has a court date pending. Further details were unavailable. 

BMW Burns

Birmingham Police detectives are investigating a suspicious car fire that damaged a BMW on Cole Street. Officers responded to calls about a vehicle engulfed in flames in the area of Cole and Commerce streets at about 1 a.m. Sunday, reports said.

The Birmingham Fire Department extinguished the fire and there were no injuries. Total damage was not available. 

The police lead the investigation and do not have any suspects or witnesses, reports said.
