Drunken Driving, Drug-Related Arrests in Birmingham

The Birmingham Police Department provided the following information. Arrests, where they are mentioned, do not indicate conviction.

Officers with the Birmingham Police Department stopped several motorists on suspicion of operating while under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs over the past week. Here are the incidents highlighted from recent police reports.

  • A 36-year-old Ferndale man faces charges for drug possession and driving with an expired license plate following his arrest on Old Woodward Avenue last week, reports said. An officer pulled over the man’s vehicle after noticing the expired plate in the area of Old Woodward and Merrill Street at about 1 a.m. May 22. The officer determined the driver had marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle. They arrested the driver without incident and released him on bond pending a hearing in 48th District Court.
  • Officers also stopped a vehicle with an expired license plate in the area of Woodward Avenue and Oak Street at about 7:30 p.m. May 17 and arrested the driver for multiple offenses, reports said. The driver, a 30-year-old Swartz Creek man, had a suspended license and had marijuana in the vehicle. Officers arrested him without incident and released him on bond pending a court hearing.
  • A Maryland resident faces drunken driving charges in 48th District Court following her arrest in Birmingham last week, reports said. The 22-year-old Severa Park woman drove erratically in the area of Woodward Avenue and Maple at about 10 p.m. May 18, reports said. Officers pulled her vehicle over and determined she was drunk. They detained her until she sobered up and released her on bond pending a court hearing for one count of operating while intoxicated.
