BoConcept To Open Soon in Birmingham

The center for Danish home furnishings will open doors on Oct. 5 at the former Azar's on Old Woodward Avenue.

Downtown Birmingham will get its first taste of Danish contemporary home furnishings with the official opening of BoConcept in the former Azar's Oriental Rugs, which closed earlier this year.

A grand opening event is planned for Oct. 5 that incudes a special visit with Denmark-based house coach and interior designer Kirsten Steno at 2 p.m. Steno will discuss getting the best out of "Home and Life Cycles" and how to create peaceful and soul-restoring homes.

The 6,800 square-foot store, located at 670 S. Old Woodward Ave., will showcase furniture and accessories that highlight comfort and simplicity, officials said. Owners Steve and Jane Syzdek, of Bloomfield, said they also hope it brings a unique shopping destination to downtown.

“Birmingham is a great venue for this brand as the downtown district attracts shoppers throughout the Metro area and has a great urban feel,” Jane Syzdek said. “As ‘Bo’ in Danish means ‘to live’, this is the ideal environment for customers to be inspired, and to create the home living environment of their dreams.”

It is the first store in Michigan for the Denmark-based brand, which is in 50 countries and has locations in 10 states and Washington D.C.

“We decided to bring BoConcept to Michigan because for many years Danish furniture thrived in this area and it embraces the need for space, individuality, and great prices,” Steve Syzdek said. “The designs feature clean, pure lines and are minimalist and modern."

Officials said the store will offer grand opening specials throughout October. Call 248-792-6331 or email events@boconceptbirmingham-mi.com. to reserve a spot for the Kirsten Steno event.
