Important Dates for the 2013-14 School Year in the Birmingham Public Schools
Need to schedule a dentist appointment or plan a family vacation? Mark your calendar with these important dates for the 2013-14.
Classes won't be back in session for students in the Birmingham Public Schools until Sept. 3. But it's never too early to begin planning, so here are the important dates to know for the 2013-14 school year.
September
Sept. 3: First day of school for studentsSept. 3-6: Kindergarten assessment; kindergarten students attend only in the morning
Sept. 9: Groves High School Curriculum night
Sept. 12: Seaholm High School Curriculum night
October
Oct. 8-25: MEAP testing for elementary and middle school studentsOct. 9: Seaholm conferences
Oct. 16: Groves conferences
Oct. 16: MEAP testing for 9th graders
November
Nov. 4: End of first quarter for elementary, Birmingham Covington School (BCS) and middle school studentsNov. 5: No school for elementary, BCS and middle school students
Nov. 13-14: BCS and Middle school conferences; students attend in the morning only on Nov. 13; full day on Nov. 14.
Nov. 20-21: Elementary school conferences. Students attend full day on Nov. 20, morning only on Nov. 21.
Nov. 22: High School Students Attend Full Day with One Exam
Nov. 25: High School Students Attend AM Only with Two Exams
Nov. 26: High School Students Attend AM Only with Two Exams; Elementary Students attend morning only for teacher professional development day.
Nov. 27: No school, conference compensation day for teachers before Thanksgiving break.
December
Dec. 2: No school for high school students, records preparation dayDec. 5: Groves curriculum night, time TBD
Dec. 9: Seaholm curriculum night, time TBD
Dec. 12: 90 minutes delayed start district-wide
December 23 - Jan. 4, 2014: Winter Break
January

March 4: High school MME testing for 11th graders; no school for students in 9th, 10th and 12th gradeMarch 5-6: High school MME testing for 11th graders; late-start for students in 9th, 10th and 12th grade
March 12-13: Middle school conferences
March 12-13: high school students attend morning only with two exams
March 14: high school students attend morning only with one exam
March 19-20: BCS and elementary conferences, students attend morning only
