There are many ways to enjoy the 2012 Woodward Dream Cruise, but if there's anything local police are trying drive home to participants this year is that Saturday is a family affair. And that it's alcohol free. "Remember, this is a family event, minimize the alcohol intake, maximize the viewing pleasure of the nostalgic cars and don’t entice the cruisers to spin their tires," said Chief Richard Matott of the Bloomfield Hills Department of Public Safety. "Spinning tires enhance the “Wow” factor but the public is in greater danger than they realize by being in such close proximity to a car spinning it’s tires that could go out of control." Of Interest: Officers will be looking for cruisers who are driving recklessly on Woodward Avenue, …

It's in high gear through Patch communities along Woodward, from Ferndale to Bloomfield Township. Come along with us as we live blog and link to coverage throughout our sites. The cars, the cruisers, the spectators, the parties ... it was all there Friday night on Woodward. In Royal Oak, members of Shrine church enjoyed their annual Dream Cruise Party outside the grade school at 12 Mile Road. In Berkley, the sentimental Vinsetta Garage, which closed last year after more than 90 years in business, opened its doors again for a private party. Next door at Westborn Market, hundreds ate, drank and boogied during the Champagne Cruise fundraiser…

From a 1911 Series C Classic Six to a cluster of 2011 Volts, Chevrolet's Centennial Woodward Parade showcased 100 years of automotive engineering as it made its way down Woodward and back this afternoon. The 25 mph parade began at the Radisson Hotel Detroit-Bloomfield Hills, traveled south down Woodward, doubled back near the Detroit Zoo and returned to the Radisson for a Chevrolet "homecoming" celebration. "We would be out on Woodward for the Dream Cruise even if it wasn't for this event," Chevy Volt owner and West Bloomfield resident Linda Tost said. The parade featured 51 Volts with owners from as far away as Arizona. "I'm just really excited about this about the enthusiasm people have for this car." Excitement was in the air just …

"Here's the deal: Whatever the law is, people have to comply," Berkley Public Safety Deputy Director Robert North said. "That doesn't change just because it's the Dream Cruise." Good advice for the 1 million-plus people expected to attend the 17th annual Woodward Dream Cruise this weekend. But can you walk through slow moving traffic, hang out on the manicured median or yell "Burn rubber!" at the passing hot rods? We asked local law enforcement agencies what Dream Cruisers can and cannot do. Don't jay walk; you will be ticketed. Walk to an intersection and use the cross walk. Leave the alcohol at home or enjoy it inside designated spaces in bars, restaurants and party areas. If you are intoxicated on the sidewalk you could spend the night…

Hundreds of Corvettes cruised down Woodward on Wednesday night for a cause. The classic sports cars filled the parking lot of St. John’s Episcopal Church on Woodward at 11 Mile bringing food and money donations for the Open Hands Food Pantry. The pantry serves the residents of Oakland County in times of emergency, providing food and other essential items. Pantry Chairman John Avery said the Royal Oak pantry, which was started in 1983, will provide groceries for thousands of people this year. This is the fourth year longtime 'Vette lover Larry Courtney of Warren organized the charity cruise. Courtney, who has been getting together with Corvette friends since 2003, said he decided to “kick things up a notch” and organize the food drive after…

When you drive a precision-engineered machine that exceeds 120 mph without strain, a vanity plate upgrade is like a flashy bow on the package – not vital, but a fine way to amuse and earn extra attention. So it's no surprise to find clever anagrams, brash boasts and plenty of playfulness above rear bumpers at the Radisson Hotel in Bloomfield Hills, filled with Corvette club members. This sampling shows a variety of models and a shared sense of driving something special. Do you have a favorite Corvette license plate? Tell us about it or upload a photo in this gallery. He built the trailer himself, completing it in 1988; included was a stove from 1957 and refrigerator from 1965. R Jeppostal is advocating that people who drive drunk should do so in Birmingham. This is known as Solicitaion of a Crime, which is a criminal offense. Any person who "encourages or requests another person to engage in specific conduct which would constitute such crime" is commiting an offense of soliciatation. The crime solicited need not be committed. Birmingham Patch should notifify the proper…   more ›
