National Weather Service Declares Hazardous Weather Outlook

Strong thunderstorms that could bring wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour, hail up to 1 inch in diameter and localized flooding are possible Thursday afternoon and evening in Oakland, Macomb and Wayne counties.

The National Weather Service has declared a hazardous weather outlook Thursday for portions of southeast Michigan, including Oakland, Macomb and Wayne counties. The agency predicts a high of 85 degrees with an 80 percent chance of precipitation Thursday; thunderstorms are expected during the afternoon, into the evening and overnight. "These storms may become severe during the afternoon and evening," according to the forecasting agency. "The biggest threat from these storms will be damaging wind gusts to 60 mph and hail to one inch in diameter. Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued for Birmingham

The warning expires at 5 p.m.

The National Weather Service says a severe thunderstorm may hit the Birmingham area this afternoon. A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued by the NWS and is in effect until 6:45 p.m. The warning affects these areas: Northville, Novi, Livonia, Salem, Canton, Milford, Whitmore Lake, Southfield and Birmingham. Quarter size hail and damaging winds in excess of 60 miles per hour have been reported "along a line extending from Novi to Whitmore Lake and moving east at 35 miles per hour," according to the NWS. In addition, the NWS has issued a flash flood warning until 10 p.m. for eastern Oakland County. Weekend Weather: Thunderstorms in the Forecast Saturday, Sunday

The high will be near 65 degrees, with wind gusts reaching up to 23 miles an hour. Saturday night, the rain and thunderstorms continue into the night, mainly before 2 a.m. Skies will be cloudy otherwise, with a low of 57 degrees. The chance of precipitation is 60 percent. In total, rainfall levels are expected to be between a tenth and a quarter of an inch during the day Saturday and overnight. Weekend Weather: Warm Weather, Chance of Thunderstorms

Get ready for a weekend with warm weather and a chance of thunderstorms.

The warmer temperatures from the week continue into this weekend, though there may be a chance more thunderstorms may also be on the way. According to the National Weather Service, the high Saturday will be 78 degrees. There will be areas of fog before 10 a.m., but after that the skies are expected to open up and be sunny the rest of the day. The wind could gust up to 18 miles per hour. Saturday night, there's a chance of showers and thunderstorms as the low dip down to 56 degrees. The chance of precipitation is 30 percent. On Sunday, the chance of storms continue. National Weather Service Issues Warning About Thunderstorms

Hail and high winds and heavy downpours are possible this afternoon.

The National Weather Service issued a special weather statement at 3:40 p.m. today, warning that heavy thunderstorms are headed toward Birmingham and Metro Detroit. According to the statement, the storms have the potential to bring heavy downpours, frequent cloud-to-ground lightning strikes, wind gusts up to 40 miles per hour and 1/2-inch diameter hail. The NWS warns the storms have the potential to increase in strength as they move through southeast Michigan. Storms are expected to continue tonight, with areas of heavy fog possible.
