Beginning at 8 a.m. Monday, The Community House will host its 21st annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration, a breakfast sponsored by Birmingham's Race Relations & Diversity Task Force. Themed "Lest We Forget," this year's event will feature a speech from Dr. Silas Norman, Jr. assistant professor of internal medicine and the associate dean for Admissions, Diversity and Inclusion at the Wayne State University School of Medicine. Eating farm fresh will take on a new meaning this September, with a newly-approved Farm to Table Block Party scheduled for Sept. 7. The event is sponsored by The Community House and was approved by the Birmingham City Commission Monday night. The Farm to Table Block Party will bring together Michigan farmers and vendors as well as a variety of Birmingham resturants for an evening of tastings, food and a look at how Michigan-grown food makes its way straight to our plates.
