It was a good day for the Seaholm High School girls cross country team, after they ran away with first place at the MHSAA state finals Saturday at the Michigan International Speedway. The Seaholm girls took home first place with 69 points, with three runners coming in the top 20. Senior Aubrey Wilberding, who finished 11th in the state last year, led the pack by coming in fourth. Her twin sister Tess, meanwhile, also bested last year's time (when she finished 49th) by coming in 12th. This is the first time in the program's history that Seaholm has taken home the state championship. Winning comes as a welcome surprise for the Maples, who finished fourth overall last year. The girls from the Seaholm High School cross country team were able to raise that regional trophy high Saturday, after coming in first in the MHSAA Division 1 regional tournament at Hess-Hathaway Park in Waterford Township. Seven Seaholm runners finished in the top 11 on Saturday, giving the Maples the 29 points they needed to easily take first place. Coming in second was Northville with 68 points and Waterford Mott with 93 points. Finishing first for Seaholm individually was sophomore Audrey Belf, who came in second overall behind West Bloomfield's Erin Finn. It was a good day at the Michigan International Speedway for the girls of the Seaholm High School cross country team, after the team took home fourth place at the state finals. Junior Aubrey Wilberding placed among the top 20 girls, finishing 11th. In total, the Seaholm girls team had four runners place among the top 50. Meanwhile, the Seaholm boy's team's only runner, senior Zack Demko, finished in 42nd place. In Division 2, Detroit Country Day sent one runner to finals, while Roeper sent three runners to state finals in Division 4. The following are the results from Birmingham schools in each division. East Lansing – The Wilberding sisters Tess and Aubrey paced Seaholm's girls cross country team Friday, leading the way to a fifth place team finish in the Spartan Invitational. Tess ran 18:39 for the 5,000-meter race, finishing 14th, while sister Aubrey came in 20 seconds behind for 20th place in the Nike Elite division at Forest Akers East Golf Course on the Michigan State University campus.
