Protesters 'Occupy Birmingham' With Signs, Slogans, Grievances

More than 50 people from Birmingham and surrounding cities show up at Martha Baldwin Park on Saturday afternoon to protest income inequality, a corrupt federal government and more.

Really, Connie and 'Trees'? A peaceful, respectful demonstration of views about improving civic discourse, "corporate greed," insider trading, campaign finance and other public policy strikes you as a waste of time or hypocrisy because they may have nice homes? . . . Occupy Movement Comes to Birmingham Dec. 17

Organizer Gerald Doelle said he hopes the nonpartisan Occupy Birmingham protest is a respectful event.

The protest is part of the larger Occupy Wall Street movement, an uprising against corporate greed which began Sept. 17 in New York and has since spread to cities across the country, including Detroit on Oct. 21 and nearby Ferndale on Oct. 28. Doelle said he hopes the movement will gain grassroots support. He has launched the Occupy …

Occupy Detroit Protesters Plan March Today

Group to meet at 4 p.m. at Spirit of Detroit statue in downtown Detroit.

Occupy Detroit, a grassroots group formed out of the national "Occupy Wall Street" movement, has planned a march in downtown Detroit today to coincide with other marches planned nationwide.  Participants will gather at 4 p.m. today at the Spirit of Detroit statue at Jefferson and Woodward and will march together to Grand Circus Park at 6 p.m., according to the group's website. A forum post on the website says the group plans to occupy the area "indefinitely." The forum poster says it will be a peaceful demonstration. The "Occupy" movements seek political, social and economic change. Some of the Detroit-specific issues members of the group have mentioned on their website include, "housing foreclosures, basic lack of good food in Detroit (…

Tim: I can live with Liberals not appreciating my views. I am all for teachers, unions etc. I just firmly believ they should not be shielded from the same dilemas the tax payers that support them have to live with. They should be set up with retirement and health plans just like those in the private sectors have. I totally disagree with tax payer funded jobs having lobbyists in Washington or …   more ›
