Out-of-State Artists Invited to Apply for Michigan Fine Arts Competition

The deadline to apply for the exhibit, scheduled for June 28-Aug. 30 at the Birmingham-area art center, is May 20.

The Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center (BBAC) is currently looking for entries for the annual Michigan Fine Arts Competition — but this year, it's not just about Michigan. This year, the juried art exhibit and competition — to be held June 28-Aug. 23 at the area art center on Cranbrook — will welcome artists from Michigan, Ohio, Indiana and Wisconsin. "We're very excited about expanding the scope of this important exhibit and are eager to see the influx of work from Michigan's neighboring states," said Annie VanGelderen, BBAC president and CEO. This week, don't miss your last chance to: Michigan Fine Arts Competition exhibit wraps up Friday The entries and winners from the 2012 Michigan Fine Arts Competition will only be on display for a few more days at the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center (BBAC). The exhibit ends Friday. Lynn Spanke of Detroit won the top prize in this year's competition, during which 177 artists from around the state submitted 236 pieces of all shapes, sizes and mediums. Spanke's piece "We Believe in Dreams" won her $5,000. Artists from Troy, Holly and Bloomfield Hills also placed. The exhibit is free and open to the public during normal gallery hours. Detroit Woman Wins First Prize in Michigan Fine Arts Competition at BBAC

An exhibit of the more than 236 works in the 30th annual Michigan Fine Arts Competition will be on display at the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center through May 4.

Artists from Detroit, Troy, Holly, Midland and Bloomfield Hills took home the top prizes in the 30th annual Michigan Fine Arts Competition, held at the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center (BBAC). "The winners of the Michigan Fine Arts Competition this year are as varied as the exhibit itself," said Annie VanGelderen, president and CEO of the BBAC. "We're honored to showcase the ecletic and diverse talent of our Michigan artists and look forward to sharing this extraordinary exhibit with the people of this region and beyond." Taking home the top prize this year was Lynn Spanke of Detroit for her piece "We Believe in Dreams." Spanke took home $5,000 in prize money. Second place was Armin Mersmann of Midland.
