Birmingham Residents Escape From House Fire on Pilgrim

Fire investigators are still unsure what started the fire that caused "substantial" heat and smoke damage to a Birmingham home Tuesday night.

Two Birmingham residents and their dog escaped safely from a house fire that damaged a home on Pilgrim Street Tuesday evening. According to Birmingham Fire Marshal Lyal Bigger, investigators are still unsure what started the fire though officials believe it originated in the kitchen area a little before 8 p.m. on Tuesday. "The fire was coming out the windows by the time we arrived," Bigger said. In total, firefighters from Royal Oak, Southfield, Bloomfield Township and West Bloomfield assisted in fighting the blaze, swarming the home which is located near the intersection of Pilgrim and Redding in the northwest corner of town. No One Injured During Christmas Day House Fire in Birmingham

A fire that began in the garage of a home on Kennesaw, in the city's Poppleton Park neighborhood, left one Birmingham family out in the cold on Christmas.

It's one of the worst things you can imagine happening on Christmas, but one Birmingham family was left out in the cold Tuesday after escaping a house fire on Kennesaw, in Birmingham's Poppleton Park neighborhood. The house fire at 685 Kennesaw began a little before 1 p.m. Tuesday, Birmingham Fire Department Capt. Bill Wallace. The fire began, he said, in the garage and later engulfed the rear of the two-story colonial home in flames. "Unfortunately, (the fire) was well involved by the time we got there," Wallace said, noting firefighters from Birmingham and Bloomfield Township arrived a little less than three minutes after receiving the call. Garages, Lawn Shed Burn During Tuesday Afternoon Fire on Henrietta, Pierce

In total, two garages — one with a car inside — and a shed caught on fire after a wire went down on Henrietta Street Tuesday.

No one was home when two garages and a shed caught fire on Henrietta and Pierce Street Tuesday afternoon. Birmingham Assistant Fire Chief John Connaughton said the fire was likely caused by a live power line falling on the garage, though the Oakland County Fire Investigations Unit is currently investigating the exact cause. In total, two garages and a shed were destroyed in the fire which began during the mid-afternoon hours at 591 Henrietta St. Connaughton said the fire began at a garage on Henrietta, eventually spreading to a garage and shed in an adjoining backyard on Pierce Street.
