Purchase several Michigan-made brands and Aco Hardware will donates a portion of the price to help feed needy families.
The Michigan-based ACO Hardware is partnering with Gleaners Community Food Bank to raise funds that will help feed hungry families in Michigan. From now through Feb. 24, customers who purchase Faygo pop, Better Made snacks and Dearborn Brand sausage — all Michigan-made products at Aco stores across Michigan, including the Birmingham location on Adams Road, will be helping Gleaners deliver millions of pounds of emergency food to soup kitchens, shelters and pantries in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Livingston and Monroe counties. According to the ACO Hardware website, the company will donate 5 percent of the purchase price of each item sold to Gleaners.

Hope at the Table volunteers will gather monetary and food donations at Birmingham Kroger on Jan. 19.
This month, Gleaners Community Food Bank and Kroger are working together to bring hope to the tables of hungry southeast Michiganders. Each Saturday in January, volunteers will spend their day at local Kroger grocery stores across southeast Michigan, handing out information about the Bringing Hope to the Table initiative, as well as accepting donations of nonperishable food and money from shoppers. Volunteers will be out at the Birmingham Kroger, located at the corner of Maple and Woodward, Jan. 19, from 10 a.m.-6 p.m., in addition to other locations in Oakland County. The Patch Fights Hunger initiative spurred 119 people in 30 Patch towns to support Gleaners Community Food Bank this holiday season.
More than 16,500 men, women and children in Metro Detroit will have a warm, healthy meal provided by Gleaners Community Food Bank this holiday season — and it's all thanks to Patch readers. Throughout the month of November, 30 Michigan Patch communities took part in the Patch Fights Hunger virtual food drive, raising funds for Gleaners. A big thank-you goes out to the Birmingham Patch readers who donated to the cause! The season of giving isn't over yet—so why should our Patch Fights Hunger virtual food drive end so soon? As such, we've extended our drive supporting Gleaners Community Food Bank until Nov. 25. On Thanksgiving, a day when every American family gives thanks for the things in their life, most of us will enjoy a feast with our families. But there are still many people who don't have enough to eat—including one out of every four children.
