Here's a snapshot of what's going on in the Birmingham's business community this week: Birmingham's newest bistro — Social Kitchen and Bar — will be opening their doors on June 21 at 225 E. Maple Rd. With a rooftop dining deck and tables in the adjoining alleyway, the 150-seat restaurant will feature a menu that takes an upscale twist on classic American cuisine. "I wanted a value-driven menu that's affordable for anyone, without making any sacrifices in the quality of the food," said chef and owner Zack Sklar. We visited the newly-opened Frank Street Bakery this week and feasted on their delicious pecan pie.
When I heard there a new bakery in town, I knew I had to make our way down to Frank Street — and to the new Frank Street Bakery, which opened in the former Cinderella's Attic location last Thursday, on Dec. 1 — as soon as possible. And I'm glad I did. For my inaugural trip, I went with our sweet tooth and bought a slice of their delicious pecan pie for only $3.17. Now, there is nothing better (in my book) than pecan pie, but this slice was phenomenal — from the light crust to the buttery, smooth filling. Of course, I stopped by during lunch time so I couldn't avoid the smells of sandwiches being freshly made.
