Business Briefs: No More Dunkin Donuts Planned for Woodward

The space will still be developed for retail, officials say, with several as-yet-unnamed tenants lined up.

Give up those doughnut dreams: plans for a Dunkin Donuts and Baskin Robbins have been abandoned for the empty space at 33779 and 33757 Woodward Ave., the former location of Bordine's on Woodward. Bordine's closed its Woodward Avenue greenhouse space last winter. The site is comprised of a greenhouse structure, a parking lot in the rear and a brick building on the corner of Humphrey and Woodward. Plans for a Dunkin Donuts were brought to the city in early summer by Coffee Enterprises, one of the largest Dunkin Donuts franchisees in Michigan. The project, now led by Tri-Phase Construction, now involves developing the site for retail, though tenants have not yet been identified. Here's a snapshot of what's going on in the Birmingham business community this week: Dunkin Donuts and Baskin Robbins took the next step toward moving to Birmingham last week, receiving approval of their preliminary site plans for the empty space at 33779 and 33757 Woodward Ave. The new doughnut shop and Baskin Robbins ice cream parlor would be moving into the former location of Bordine's on Woodward, which closed last winter. The current site is comprised of a greenhouse structure, a parking lot in the rear and a brick building on the corner of Humphrey and Woodward. The Birmingham Planning Board postponed the preliminary site plan review for Dunkin Donuts, which wants to move into the former Bordines spot on Woodward.

Is Birmingham ready for a Dunkin Donuts and Baskin Robbins with a drive-thru? Based on plans presented to the city last week, the Birmingham Planning Board says: not yet. The planning board postponed the preliminary site plan review and Special Land Use Permit application for Dunkin Donuts, which is looking to move into 33779 and 33757 Woodward Ave., between Humphrey Avenue and Bennaville Avenue.
