Birmingham Superintendent to Weigh In On School Safety, Gun Violence at County Hearing

Superintendent Daniel Nerad will speak during the Oakland County Board of Commissioners' informational hearing Tuesday, "Curbing Gun Violence."

Birmingham Public Schools Superintendent Daniel Nerad will speak at a special hearing on gun violence and school safety at Tuesday's meeting of the Oakland County Board of Commissioners. Nerad, along with superintedents from Lake Orion, South Lyon and Walled Lake, will speak during the informational hearing, "Curbing Gun Violence," beginning at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in Pontiac. The hearings are part of County Commissioners Bill Dwyer (R-14th District) and Marcia Gershenson's (D-13th District) efforts to study gun violence, gun registration and mental health. Birmingham's New Superintendent Set to Start Aug. 6

Birmingham Public Schools' new superintendent, Daniel Nerad, will soon be on the job in Birmingham. According to Susan Hill, a member and former president of the Birmingham Board of Education, Nerad has been released from his contract with the Madison Metropolitan School District in Madison, WI. His first day in Birmingham will be Aug. 6. "We are absolutely delighted to be starting the school year with him in place," Hill said. Nerad, 60, signed his contract with Birmingham in mid-June after he was selected on June 11 from a field of five semifinalists. It's official: the Birmingham Board of Education passed a resolution Tuesday night officially hiring Daniel Nerad at the district's next superintendent. School Board President Susan Hill said Nerad — the current superintendent of the Madison (WI) Metropolitan School District — signed a contract with the district earlier Tuesday, with an official start date of July 1. Daniel Nerad Chosen as Next Superintendent of Birmingham Schools

The chief of the Madison (WI) Metropolitan School District is the Board of Education's choice to replace outgoing David Larson.

It started with a pool of 40 applicants and in the end, the Birmingham Board of Education selected Daniel Nerad, 60, as its choice for the superintendent position at Birmingham Public Schools. Nerad, currently the superintendent of the Madison (WI) Metropolitan School District, was unanimously selected Monday night during a special meeting of the school board after returning last Thursday for a second round of interviews, a presentation and dinner with the school board. In the end, Nerad was up against fellow finalist Robert Shaner, executive director of instruction and technology with the Warren Consolidated School District. Meet the Superintendent Finalists: Daniel Nerad

The current superintendent of the Madison Metropolitan School District is one of two vying for the superintendent position with Birmingham Public Schools. He is to be interviewed before the school board Thursday.

On Saturday, the Birmingham Board of Education chose Robert Shaner and Daniel Nerad as finalists for the position of superintendent with Birmingham Public Schools. The school board is working to replace outgoing superintendent David Larson, who announced in late March that he would be taking a superintendent position in Glenbard Township, IL. Shaner and Nerad were chosen as finalists from a group of five semifinalists, all of whom interviewed before the school board last week. The pair returns this week for a second interview with the board; finalists will also give a 15-minute presentation, tour the district and meet with a committee of parents, teachers and community members. Birmingham's administrators are terrible. They treat their teachers and especially support staff (read: special educators) like dirt! I'd hate to be a special educator in Bham - low pay, treated like crap and work until midnight every damn night trying to keep up with the red tape! No thx!!!
