Birmingham Hockey to Host Charity Tournament for Common Ground

The hockey team, made up of high school players from Seaholm and Groves, will donate all proceeds from the Jan. 26 tournament to Common Ground.

The kings from Birmingham Unified hockey are looking to give back this month, with both the varsity and junior varsity teams hosting a charity tournament to benefit Common Ground at the end of the month. On Jan. 26, the Birmingham Unified hockey teams — made up of high school players from Seaholm and Groves high schools — will host the tournament at the Birmingham Ice Sports Arena, located at the far end of East Lincoln Road. All proceeds from the games will be donated to Common Ground, a nonprofit agency dedicated to helping youths, adults and families in crisis. Oakland County to Host Teen Suicide Forum Monday in Birmingham

The evening will include a panel of local experts at Birmingham's Holy Name Catholic Church.

This Monday, learn a little more about teen suicide at a special panel hosted by Oakland County in Birmingham. The panel of experts from the Rose Hill Center, Common Ground, Oakland County Health Department and the Oakland County Youth Suicide Prevention Task Force will discuss the signs, symptoms and other risk factors of suicide. The panel, which lasts from 7-9 p.m., will take place at the Holy Name Catholic Church, in the parish hall, in Birmingham. The panel is free and according to organizers, open to all county residents but especially appropriate for parents and students in junior high and high school. See These Local Artists at the Common Ground Street Art Fair

The annual art festival will take place Saturday and Sunday on South Old Woodward Avenue in downtown Birmingham.

Common Ground's 38th Annual Birmingham Street Art Fair returns to downtown Birmingham this weekend, featuring artwork from a variety of Birmingham-area and Metro Detroit artists. Produced in association with the Guild of Artists and Artisans, the fair will spotlight artwork from more than 160 juried artists and artisans, most of which will be available for purchase. Art on display includes ceramics, paintings, sculptures, jewelry, photography and more. The fair is a major fundraiser for Common Ground, a nonprofit emergency help line for adults, youths and families in crisis. Need To Know: Going to Common Ground's Art Fair

More than 160 juried artists and artisans will take over the streets of downtown Birmingham this weekend to raise funds for social agency.

Common Ground's 37th annual Birmingham Street Art Fair will take over the streets of downtown Birmingham this Saturday and Sunday. Produced in association with the Guild of Artists and Artisans, the fair will feature more than 160 juried artists and artisans whose works be on display and available for purchase. Included will be ceramics, paintings, sculptures, jewelry and photography. In addition, the fair — formerly known as Art in the Park, named for its former home in Shain Park — returns this year to South Old Woodward Avenue. Booths will line the center of the street and face outward this year. I was just mentioning the layout to a friend, having the booths facing outward is good for everyone, plus you can focus more on the individual booths rather than go from side to side. I hope the forecast is as inaccurate as its been all week! anxious to attend!   more ›
