Golf is in full swing at Birmingham's two golf courses, according to the city's spring newsletter. Lincoln Hills and Springdale Golf Courses are both open to all and are considered "two of the best nine-hole courses in Oakland County," the newsletter states. Last year, the two golf courses had a "phenomenal 2012 season," bringing in $187,000 more in revenue in 2012 than the 2011 season. That Rusty Water Color is Normal, Birmingham

The city's annual water hydrant flow tests will begin in May and could leave water discolored for some areas on the city's south side.

Just about this time every year they begin to get calls from residents complaining about brown or rusty water.  The response is universal and simple: it's completely normal. Beginning May 1, the Birmingham Fire Department starts its annual round of fire hydrant flow tests, to insure the city can provide the flow pressure and volume necessary. Volunteers Needed to Study Woodward Avenue in Birmingham

A number of positions are open on the steering committee for the South Woodward Corridor Master Plan, which will study ways to make the famous Michigan roadway work better for Birmingham.

Oakland County Phone Outages Hit Birmingham Schools, City Offices

Business lines for Oakland County government offices, including the city of Birmingham, were disrupted Wednesday. Little Rock, Ark.-based Windstream is working to correct the problem, a spokesman said.

Phone service throughout Oakland County experienced sporadic interruptions Wednesday morning though the service provider was working to make repairs. The disruptions began at approximately 9 a.m. and technicians were working to correct the problems, said David Avery, a spokesman for Little Rock, Ark.-based Windstream. Avery said the disruptions appeared to be caused by a cut fiber optic cable in Indiana and an equipment malfunction in Wisconsin. He could not provide an estimated time for service restoration. Avery said Windstream also was working to determine the exact scope of the problem in Michigan.
