Residents reported seeing a suspicious man believed to be behind an attempted home invasion on Dewey Street early Wednesday morning.
Birmingham Police are investigating a report of an attempted home invasion on Dewey Street early Wednesday morning. According to police reports, a resident living on the 600 block of Dewey Street said the home alarm system went off around 4 a.m. Wednesday. The homeowner told police he saw a man wearing dark clothing running away from his home immediately afterward, though nothing was stolen or disturbed. Police then followed the tracks in the snow from Dewey to Greenwood, and then from Greenwood to Willits, through a yard on the 300 block of Willits, and onto Warren Court, a dead end street near the First Baptist Church in downtown Birmingham. The incident happened just over a week after two bikes were stolen from the Woodward Avenue bike shop.
Someone tried to break into Birmingham's KLM Bike & Fitness last weekend, just 10 days after two bikes worth more than $5,000 were stolen from the Woodward Avenue shop. According to Birmingham police, store employees found the deadbolt on the shop's back doors slightly popped out on Saturday morning. Police believe the incident happened between 8 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9. According to reports, there was a pry mark on the metal plate secured to the door frame, but no entry was gained. Two Giant brand bikes went missing after a thief broke into the Woodward Avenue bike shop late last Tuesday night.
A thief made off with more than $5,000 in bicycles last week from KLM Bike & Fitness on Woodward. According to police reports, bike shop employees reported that sometime around 11 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, someone broke the bottom left window of their sliding front door. Police believe the suspect used a rock to break through the glass. In total, two bicycles were missing from the store the next day: a blue, black and silver Giant TCR Advanced Zero compact bike, in the medium to large model. That bike is worth $4,550, employees say. The other missing bike is a 2013 Giant Avail 3 compact bike, medium model, in black, purple and white. That bike is worth $915. Residents living on Chapin said someone stole jewelry from their home while another says someone tried to kick in their door days before Christmas.

According to police reports, the incident occurred sometime between noon and 1 p.m. on Halloween. The incident is similar to a string of catalytic converter thefts in Bloomfield Township. Officers responded to an alarm at the Woodward Avenue bike shop around 2 a.m. Saturday.
Birmingham Police are investigating after a $2,400 bicycle was reported stolen from KLM Bike and Fitness. According to police reports, the incident occurred around 1:50 a.m. last Saturday at the bicycle shop at 33502 Woodward Ave. Officers responded to a breaking-and-entering alarm at the shop. When police arrived, reports state they found the front door glass broken out. When a manager arrived, he told police a Giant TCR composite bicycle that had been sitting next to the front door was gone. Police continue to investigate.

Employees say narcotic pills are missing after an early-morning break-in at the pharmacy Tuesday.
Birmingham Police are looking for three suspects after an early-morning break-in at Mills Phamarcy. According to police reports, the break-in occurred around 4 a.m. Tuesday at the West Maple Road pharmacy, located near Schakolad across the street from First Presbyterian Church of Birmingham and the First United Methodist Church of Birmingham. Officers responded to the store alarm, reports state, finding the rear door pried open. When employees arrived, they told police that several bottles of narcotic pills had been taken from the pharmacy area.
