The competition for high school-age string musicians includes a $750 grand prize and the chance to perform with the BBSO during their 2013-14 season.
Is your teen an ambitious violin, cello or viola player? Then, they'll want to compete in the Birmingham-Bloomfield Symphony Orchestra's (BBSO) Young Artist Concerto Competiion, happening this March at Birmingham's Wilson Fine Violins. The winner will have the chance to perform with the BBSO at one their 2013-14 concerts as well as receive a $750 grand prize. According to the BBSO's Sandra Stalmack, the competition is open to local musicians in the 9th-12th grades. The musicians must play some kind of string instrument. How do you enter? Contestants will need only to show up on competition days — 4-9 p.m. March 20-21 and 4-8 p.m. March 22 — and perform one concerto. The concerto should not exceed 10 minutes nor must it be memorized, though…

The 2012 Young Artist Competition winner Haeji Kim will perform with the BBSO this weekend at the concert at Groves High School.
While it will be just another holiday concert for the members of the Birmingham-Bloomfield Symphony Orchestra (BBSO), this weekend will be a very big deal for several young musicians. Several members of the Andover High School orchestra, as well as the winner of the 2012 BBSO Young Artist Competition — Bloomfield Hills violinist Haeji Kim — will perform with the BBSO this Sunday during the orchestra's annual holiday concert, titled Holiday Cheer. Featuring a slate of seasonal favorites, the BBSO's holiday concert will begin at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Groves High School auditorium. Conducting will be Charles Greenwell. Joining the BBSO musicians on stage for a joint performance will be the string section of the Andover High School orchestra. …
