Alleged Birmingham Bank Robber Remains in Custody

Derrick Dwayne Sebree, 49, is charged in federal court with eight counts of bank robbery, including recent heists in Birmingham and Beverly Hills.

'Serial Bank Robber' Suspect in Custody

A man suspected of robbing banks in Royal Oak, Birmingham and Berkley was arrested Wednesday during an attempted bank robbery at TCF Bank on 12 Mile Road.

Royal Oak Police confirmed the arrest of a man on Wednesday who is suspected in a string of bank robberies in Oakland County over the past several months. The arrest came during an attempted robbery at TCF Bank at approximately 12:41 p.m. in Royal Oak, which had been robbed twice in March 2012 by a man wearing a mask. Royal Oak Police Chief Corrigan O'Donohue said he believes the man in custody is the "serial bank robber." Around 12:41 p.m. Wednesday, police responded to a report from an employee at TCF Bank who said a man walked into the bank armed with a handgun and demanded money from the teller. Police Say 'Serial Bank Robber' Hit Beverly Hills Bank Tuesday

A man believed to be responsible for several bank robberies around Oakland County, including one in Birmingham, robbed the Independent Bank at 14 Mile and Southfield Tuesday.

Police believe that a serial bank robber hitting up banks around Oakland County may be responsible for the Tuesday morning robbery of a Beverly Hills bank just south of the Birmingham border. According to WXYZ, a man robbed the Independent Bank in Beverly Hills — located just south of 14 Mile on Southfield — on Tuesday.  In security footage caught at the Beverly Hills bank, the man is seen holding a gun while the teller hands over the cash in a bag, according to Click On Detroit.  During the robbery, the man was wearing a black coat, pants and ski mask. 'Serial Bank Robber' Strikes Again, This Time in Royal Oak

A man who robbed a Main Street bank on Friday is believed to be a suspect in five other area robberies, including one in Birmingham.

A Royal Oak bank was the latest target of a "serial bank robber" who may have robbed a bank in Birmngham earlier this month. Last Friday, a man entered the Citizen’s Bank at 800 S. Main St. in Royal Oak with a handgun and got away with an undisclosed amount of money. The suspect matches the description of a masked man believed to have robbed several banks in the area, according to FBI spokesperson Simon Shaykhet. Since December, five other banks in Oakland County, including the Comerica Bank in Birmingham, in which a man dressed all in black took off with $9,000 on Feb. 8. Police See Connection Between Birmingham Robbery, Nearby Stick-Ups

Birmingham Police say Friday's robbery of Comerica Bank is similar to several recent bank robberies in Royal Oak, Berkley and Madison Heights.

Birmingham Police believe there may be a connection between Friday's robbery of the Comerica Bank on West Maple and several similar robberies in the area. On Friday, a masked man wearing all black robbed the Comerica Bank at 1712 W. Maple Rd., police reports state. The man pulled out the gun during the robbery, police say, and walked out with more than $9,000. According to Birmingham Lt. Mike Albrect, the detective in charge of the case, Birmingham Police is working with the FBI to catch the man. However, Albrect said the robbery might be connected to several other area robberies, including four in Royal Oak, Berkley and Madison Heights. Masked Man Robs Birmingham's Comerica Bank Friday Morning

Birmingham Police and the FBI are looking for a man who pulled out a hand gun during a robbery of the Comerica Bank on West Maple Road.

Birmingham Police are working with the FBI to investigate a Friday morning bank robbery at the Comerica Bank on West Maple Road in Birmingham. According to reports from the Birmingham Police Department, a lone suspect entered the bank, located at 1712 West Maple Rd., around 10:05 a.m. wearing a black ski mask and pulled out a hand gun. The man approached the tellers, police say, and demanded money. After tellers handed over their cash — at least $9,000, police say — the man fled the bank, running westbound along Maple. UPDATED: Suspected Birmingham Bank Robber Pleads Not Guilty in Ferndale

The man suspected of robbing the Comerica and Flagstar banks in Birmingham, as well others in Ferndale and Clinton Township, was arrested and arraigned in 43rd District Court on Wednesday.

The man suspected of robbing at least four local banks on Tuesdays – two in Birmingham — was arrested and arraigned in Ferndale Wednesday. John Lee Westpfahl, 44, was arraigned in Ferndale's 43rd District Court on one count of bank robbery, charged with robbing Ferndale's Charter One Bank on Dec. 6. Police believe Westpfahl, who is currently on parole from a 2006 bank robbery conviction in Roseville, to be responsible for several other bank robberies around Metro Detroit, including one in Clinton Township and two in Birmingham. Flagstar Robbed; Police Say it Might be Tuesday Bank Bandit

Birmingham police say they're working with the FBI on the investigation, noting the suspect may be involved in recent bank robberies in Ferndale, Clinton Township and Birmingham.

Birmingham police are investigating a bank robbery that occurred Tuesday morning at the Flagstar Bank at 35238 Woodward Ave. According to a release from the Birmingham Police Department, the robbery occurred around 9:35 a.m. The man is described as white, around 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing 160 pounds. Man Robs Comerica Bank at 14 Mile and Woodward

The man took an undisclosed amount of money from the Comerica Bank at 10 a.m. Tuesday, according to Birmingham Police.

Birmingham Police are searching for a man who robbed the Comerica Bank at 14 Mile and Woodward Tuesday morning. The man entered the bank around 10:05 a.m. and approached one of the tellers, according to a release from Birmingham Police Cmdr. Terry Kiernan. The man produced a note stating it was a robbery and to give him money. No weapon was seen or implied in the note, the release said. After the teller gave him an undisclosed amount of money from his drawer, the man left the bank and was last seen running west away from the bank. The man has been described as white, between 5-feet-7 and 5-feet-9, between 25 to 30 years old, with facial hair.
