Clarkston Shoplifter Arrested With Corona Cases at Birmingham Kroger

The Birmingham Police Department provided the following information. Arrests, where they are mentioned, do not indicate conviction.

  Officers with the Birmingham Police Department arrested a 45-year-old Clarkston man for trying to steal three cases of Corona beer from the Birmingham Kroger last week, police said.  Police responded to the store at about 12:30 p.m. May 2 and found the man detained by store security officers, a report said. They told police the man tried to leave the store with the beer without paying.  The officers issued at ticket for misdemeanor retail fraud and released him when he paid an undisclosed bond. A court hearing is pending. Birmingham police officers arrested a 56-year-old Detroit man that stole cash from a teenager's purse at Panera Bread last week. Birmingham Teacher Shot Multiple Times; Autopsies Scheduled Wednesday

Long-time West Maple Elementary School teacher Harry Berkowitz was attacked by his roommate, Thomas Ian Matthews, at the Franklin home they shared, police said.

  The autopsies of slain West Maple Elementary School teacher Harry Berkowitz and the man police said killed him were scheduled for Wednesday afternoon by the Oakland County Medical Examiner's Office, authorities said.  Detective Lt. William Castro of the Franklin-Bingham Farms Police Department planned to be at the autopsy to glean preliminary results, but final results may not become official until results from toxicology and other tests are known, Police Chief Daniel Roberts said. Roberts confirmed Berkowitz, 72, was shot multiple times and that there's little doubt what or who killed him. Police Seek Help Finding Birmingham Teacher Harry Berkowitz's Relatives

The beloved Birmingham Public Schools teacher killed Tuesday in a murder-suicide had no local family members that police can identify.

  The The Franklin-Bingham Farms Police Department has not been able to identify any family members of Harry Berkowitz and is asking for the public to help. Berkowitz, 72, was unmarried, had no children, and although had many close friends and colleagues in the Birmingham Public Schools, didn't talk much about his own family, said Chief Daniel Roberts. "We have not been able to find anyone locally or out of town for that matter," he said Wednesday. "We've talked to many friends, associates, and colleagues, but really haven't been able to come up with a name." Authorities Investigate Suspicious Death in Franklin

Police from multiple jurisdictions are in Royal Oak assisting with a lead related to the case, officials said.

The Franklin-Bingham Farms Police Department is investigating the suspicious death of a resident that is likely tied to an ongoing police situation in Royal Oak, authorities said. Franklin-Bingham Farms police officers responded to 26000 block of Charles Street just north of the Birmingham border this morning and discovered the dead resident, whose identity is not being released this afternoon pending notification to relatives, a press release stated. "The death is suspicious in nature and the Oakland County Sheriff's Department is assisting at the scene," the release stated. iPads Stolen From Quarton School; Impaired Drivers Arrested

Officers with the Birmingham Police Department are investigating the theft of four iPads from Quarton Elementary School sometime last week, according to reports. School staff contacted police on April 26 after discovering the district-owned devices were missing near the end of the school day. One of the iPads had a black rubber case and the other three were covered in a red "skin" that said "Quarton School" on it. Investigators believe the thefts occurred sometime between 9 a.m. on April 25 and 3 p.m. on April 26, reports said. No suspect information was available. Man Finds Stolen Tractor in Birmingham; Seaholm Lacrosse Gear Taken

  A man told Birmingham police that he saw a tractor that was stolen recently from a Troy construction site at a building under construction in the 2000 block of Cole Street, reports said. Officers verified the tractor did belong to the man and are investigating how it was in city. Larcenies Retail Fraud Birmingham police are trying to identify a man that stole cell phones from Walgreens on Tuesday, reports said. The man walked in the store at about 4 p.m. and took two phones without paying. He was described as black, between 5-feet-8 inches and 5-feet-11 inches tall and had short hair, a mustache and a goatee. Birmingham Police Seek Gas Station Burglar

Surveillance video captures the man who smashed the front glass door if a Mobil station at about 4:30 a.m. Can you help identify him?

The Birmingham Police Department seeks the public's help in trying to identify a man that burglarized the Mobile Gas Station at 101 East 14 Mile Rd. Tuesday morning. Surveillance videos captured the man breaking the front sliding glass door to the business at about 4:30 a.m., and taking cash, reports said. He is described as black, heavy set, and wore a dark coat with the numbers '100-1' on the back. The coat also had a triangular design on the front right side. Reports also said he wore black high-top tennis shoes with white-tipped toes. Anyone with information is asked to call the Birmingham police at 248- 530-1870 or email birminghampolice@bhamgov.org.

Birmingham Home Invasion Suspect Charged

Lucious Brinson, 27, faces multiple felony counts stemming from an incident reported Friday, police said.

  A man suspected in at least one recent home invasion in the city of Birmingham will face a preliminary hearing on multiple felony charges in 48th District Court next week. Lucious Brinson, 27, is charged with home invasion, possession of burglary tools and possession of drugs, stemming from his April 19 arrest outside a home near downtown. He was released Monday after posting a $25,000 cash bond and is expected back in court next week, record show. Undercover officers with the Troy Police Department had Brinson under surveillance, and arrested him in the 1100 block of North Old Woodward after witnessing the home invasion crime, a news release stated.
