The Police Department has been serving the Birmingham community since 1864, when Alanson Partridge was named town marshal and long before Birmingham became a city. Now with traffic and detective bureaus, nine vehicles, seven mountain bikes and two motorcycles, the department ensures Birmingham's safety.
The department also has a small K9 unit, issues parking and various other permits, and responds to animal control calls. Officers are available for speaking engagements and educational programs. They also participate in the Adopt a Senior program. The Police Department is located in City Hall, on Martin St. in downtown Birmingham.
