Birmingham Planning Department
248-530-1850
The Birmingham Planning Department is instrumental in all cases of property development. The office reviews plans for new developments within city limits, and assists with zoning, historic preservation efforts and erecting temporary or permanent street signs. The department is also responsible for maintaining the Birmingham Zoning Code.
The Planning Department is also key to advancing the city's goal to be a model of "New Urbanism." New Urbanism focuses on transforming cities into compact, walkable and vibrant communities, and preserving traditional neighborhoods.
The Planning Department is located in City Hall, on Martin Street in downtown Birmingham.
