The primary responsibility of the City Assessor's office is to assess commercial and personal property every year for tax purposes. The office continually studies the local real estate market in order to determine property values and is responsible for evaluating new construction or additions. The office also maintains the Land File System, a record of all properties within city limits.
The City Assessor's office is located in City Hall on Martin Street in downtown Birmingham.
