Our Town Art Show, Greenwood Cemetery Tour and More This Weekend

There's plenty to do this weekend in and around Birmingham this weekend. Take a peek.


October Winemaker Dinner 

The Reserve at Big Rock Chophouse welcomes California's popular Grgich Hills Winery and special guest speaker Sean Barrett for a special evening at 6:30 p.m. tonight. Registration is required by calling Kristen at 248-647-7774 or email her directly at kjapowicz@bigrockchophouse.com. 

OUR TOWN Art Show and Sale

The 28th Annual Our Town Art Show and Sale runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Oct. 11 and 12 at the Community House, 380 South Bates St. The show is free and open to the public. The event will showcase more than 300 pieces of artwork from 167 artists, and will award $10,000 in prize money to Michigan artists. 

Greenwood Cemetery Costumed Tour

Join local historians in costume on a special guided tour of the Greenwood Cemetery that explores Birmingham's early pioneers at 1 p.m. Saturday. The tour is $10 per person or $20 per family, and reservations are available by calling the Birmingham Historical Museum at 248-530-1928.

Fire Department Open House

Birmingham Fire Department will showcase it's personnel, training and equipment while teaching the community about fire safety durin their annua open house on Oct. 12. 

From 1-4 p.m., residents can visit the Birmingham Fire Department - Adams St. Station and participate in hands-on activities for children and adults, fire demonstrations and take a peek at the Beaumont One helicopter. This year's event takes on special meaning as the department celebrates its 100th anniversary.


'Putin's Kiss'

The Roeper School's Diversity/Amnesty Film Series continues with 'Putin's Kiss,' which portrays contemporary life in Russia for young adults. The film begins at 7:30 p.m., Oct. 12 at the R. Dean Acheson Theater on the Birmingham campus, located at 1051 Oakland Ave. A presentation by Roeper senior Eli Simons will follow the film. Admission is free but donations will be accepted.
