Municipal services

Birmingham City Hall, including the Clerk's Office, City Manager's Office and Finance Department, will be closed for the New Year on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Dispatchers with both the Birmingham Police Department and Birmingham Fire Department will be on duty to take 911 calls for police and fire emergencies.


Around town

  • Both the Birmingham 8 and Palladium theaters will have show times on New Year's Eve and beginning at 11:15 a.m. New Year's Day.
  • The Maple Theater, will show movies in all three theaters beginning at 11 a.m. on New Year's Day. 
  • The Baldwin Public Library will close at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 31 and will be closed on New Year's Day Wednesday, Jan. 1. The Library will reopen to the public at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 2.
  • The U.S. Post Office on Bowers Street will observe the holiday on Wednesday, so there will neither be regular hours, nor any mail delivery or pickup. The post office will reopen Thursday at normal business hours, 8:30 a.m. - 6 p.m.
