Veterans Day Ceremony

The annual Veterans Day Wreath Laying Ceremony, sponsored by the Piety Hill Chapter of the D.A.R., is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday in Shain Park.

The Silver Tsunami

Join multiple presentations about the area's growing senior population
at the Birmingham Area Seniors Coordinating Council at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13. Speakers will explore the growing demographic, also known as the "Silver Tsunami", and what impact or changes it will bring to the community. Participants will also hear from the Joint Senior Services Committee and the final recommendation report to local municipalities. The event is open to the public.

Complete Streets in Birmingham

Members of the Birmingham Planning Board will hear a presentation on the Woodward Avenue Complete Streets Project when they meet at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13 at City Hall. Jason Fowler of the Woodward Avenue Action Association will present a draft of the organization's master plan for the future of the Woodward Avenue corridor. 

Harvest Hike for Hunger

A 25-year tradition at Pembroke Elementary School continues this week as students will ask the community to help feed families in need. Student hiked through local neighborhoods on Friday with flyers asking for help in their annual food drive. Donations can be dropped off to the Pembroke office during school hours through Nov. 15.


Seaholm Toy Drive

The Third Annual Seaholm Maples’ Toy Drive is under way through Dec. 13 to benefit St. Patrick Food Pantry in Detroit. The pantry distributes boxes of food and toys to families of all denominations in the Cass Corridor. Seaholm’s past efforts helped more than 500 children and nearly 200 families, according to organizers.
