Senior Center Open House and See 'American Promise' at Roeper

Senior Services Open House

The Birmingham Area Senior Center (BASCC) will showcase all the programs and services it offers adults 50+ in the Birmingham Public Schools from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 1. Meet class facilitators, see them in action and take a personal tour of the center. Refreshments will be available and attendees can enter a drawing for a free class and/or membership. 


City Meetings

The Birmingham Parks and Recreation Board will meet at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 1 at the Public Services Building Conference Room. Among the agenda items are updates on the golf cours financials and Kenning Park.

The Birmingham Historic District Commission will meet at 7 p.m., Oct. 2 at the municipal building room 205 at City Hall.

BPS Civil Rights Survey

Oct. 1 is the last day for residents in the Birmingham Public Schools to take an online survey that will help measure the district's compliance with civil rights protocols. The survey can be anonymous, if desired, and is provided by the Michigan Department of Education.

'American Promise' at Roeper

The Roeper School hosts a screening of 'American Promise' at 6 p.m. on Oct. 2 at the Middle/Upper School at 1051 Oakland Ave. in Birmingham. The film explores the racial achievement gap in American schools. The screening is free and will include time for questions with the producers via Skype.

DSO Chamber Music Concert 

A string quartet from the Detroit Symphony Orchestra will perform chamber music from 7-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 2 at the Baldwin Public Library. The performance will include String Quartet #2 by Alexander Zemlinsky and Lullaby by George Gershwin. The event is free and sponsored by a joint partnership of library and DSO Community Programs funded through the Jane Cameron Fund.
