Here's some of the highlights of what's happening this week in and around Birmingham. Please leave a comment if you have an event to share.

  • The Birmingham City Commission will meet at 7:30 p.m. Monday in City Hall to appoint James Robb to the Board of Ethics; approve the 5th Annual Rail Jam in Woodward Triangle; chimney and masonry repairs at the Birmingham Historical Museum & Park, and other municipal matters.   • The Birmingham Public Schools Board of Education will convene a closed session at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 4 to discuss contract negotiations.
  • Get musical with a pair of student orchestra concerts. The Birmingham Covington School seventh and eighth grade orchestra students will perform their annual concert at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 4. The following night, students in the seventh and eighth grade will perform from 7-8 p.m. Both shows are in the cafeteria.
  • Touch-a-Truck Day at Midvale Early Childhood Center on Tuesday, June 4. From 10 a.m. to noon, Early Childhood Center students and families will explore cars and trucks during an annual event that offers students the chance to explore a variety of vehicles, ranging from an ambulance, police car, maintenance trucks, a crane and a fire truck.
  • The 13th annual Berkley Art Bash featuring more than 115 artists, live music, kids' activities and food trucks will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, June 8, in downtown Berkley.
