30 Days of Giving, Day 20: Grant a Wish

Help make a child's dream come true by supporting the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Michigan or Rainbow Connection.

This is part of a 30-day series of ways Patch community members can give back this holiday season. We hope you'll take part in this 30 Days of Giving and take the spirit beyond the holidays, because there truly is need all year long.

Make a wish come true

Make-A-Wish Foundation of Michigan is an organization based out of Brighton that puts joy into the lives of children suffering from life threatening illnesses. Since the charity was incorporated in 1984, Make-A-Wish has granted the wishes of 6,500 sick children in Michigan. Whether it be getting a puppy, taking a trip to Disney World or meeting someone the child looks up to, Make-A-Wish does everything in its power to make that wish come true.

Donations to Make-A-Wish can be submitted in person, via phone, mail or online. For more information on the nonprofit or to donate visit its website at www.wishmich.org or call (800) 622-9474.

, based out of Rochester, has a similar mission to the Make-A-Wish Foundation by helping make the dreams of children suffering from life threatening medical conditions come true. The nonprofit is always looking for community members to host fundraisers, or take part in the Adopt-a-Dream initiative. Monetary donations are also accepted. For people interested in volunteering for the organization and participating in events, visit www.rainbowconnection.org.

In addition, through Dec. 22, you can donate to the Rainbow Connection's toy drive. New and wrapped toys are preferred, particularly those found on the group's online wishlist, including cards, games, make-up and scrapbooking supplies. Toy donations can be dropped off onsite between 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on week days at 621 W. University Dr. in Rochester.
