Need To Know: Your Guide to Summer Music in Birmingham

From high school bands rocking out on the last day of school, to Motown in August, there's something for everyone during this season's In the Park Summer Concert series.

Get ready enjoy a summer of music. Beginning tonight, Birmingham kicks off its 32nd season of concerts in the park, and whether you're a fan of Motown or classical, there's something for everyone this summer.

"We're looking forward to another fantastic season of In the Park Summer Concerts," said Lauren Wood, director of Birmingham's .

With dates throughout the summer, all concerts will take place in the bandstand at downtown's , beginning at 7 p.m. Concerts are a casual affair, Wood said, with attendees encouarged to bring a blanket, lawn chair and a picnic spread. Seating is on the lawn.

The series kicks off tonight with the Birmingham Bloomfield Community Coalition's Battle of the Bands. In ode to the last day of school and featuring dozens of local high school bands, , who died last month after allegedly taking K2, or Spice.

According to Wood, new to 2012 is the July 25 Family Night, featuring country music group AllenAsTim. There will be line dancing, Wood said, face painting for the kids. "It should be a great time for all."
