See Legendary Al Fracassa's Last First Day as Brother Rice's Football Coach

The retiring coach caps an undefeated season as the 2013 American Family Insurance All-USA Coach of the Year.

Al Fracassa's swan song into retirement keeps getting sweeter. The legendary head coach of the Brother Rice High School Warriors capped an undefeated championship season with the 2013 American Family Insurance All-USA Coach of the Year award this week.

Fracassa, 81, led the Warriors to their third-straight state title last month. It was his ninth championship in a stellar, 54-year career that resulted in more than 430 wins, a Michigan football record.

"It was just a season that we will always remember," Fracassa told USA Today about receiving the award. "I really love my kids and I think they respect me and love me. We’re a family and that was one of the reasons we won."

A five-member panel to find Fracassa's successor accepted applications through Dec. 20, and interviews are expected early next month.
