Seaholm Girls Take Home First in Cross Country Regionals

The girls from the Seaholm High School cross country team were able to raise that regional trophy high Saturday, after coming in first in the MHSAA Division 1 regional tournament at Hess-Hathaway Park in Waterford Township.

Seven Seaholm runners finished in the top 11 on Saturday, giving the Maples the 29 points they needed to easily take first place. Coming in second was Northville with 68 points and Waterford Mott with 93 points.

Finishing first for Seaholm individually was sophomore Audrey Belf, who came in second overall behind West Bloomfield's Erin Finn. The remaining top 11 runners were:

With Jackie Feist leading the Falcons, the rest of the Groves High School team finished seventh overall with 224 points.

On the boys side, Waterford Mott took home first place at the regional cross country meet, followed by Northville and Walled Lake Northern. Seaholm finished seventh, followed by Groves in 15th place. Brother Rice, meanwhile, took home fifth place.

Results: Detroit Country Day, Roeper

In Division 2 cross country, meanwhile, Detroit Country Day boys took home eighth place overall at a meet dominated by Bloomfield Hills Lahser, Bloomfield Hills Andover and Orchard Lake St. Mary's. The highest placing Country Day runner was Nick Ott, who finished seventh.

For the girls, Detroit Country Day finished fifth with 150 points. The highest placing lady Yellowjacket was Monica Babcock, who finished ninth.

Meanwhile, in Division 4, Birmingham's Roeper Upper School boys cross country team took home eighth place overall with 170 points. The highest placing Roeper runner was Justin Finkel, who came in seventh place with a time of 17.56. The Roeper girls did not make it to regionals this year.

Up next: state finals

For those runners who qualified, the state finals are next. The MHSAA cross country state championships will take place next weekend, on Nov. 3, at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, MI.

Tickets to cross country finals are $7 (no passes accepted). Admission is charged for everybody age 5 and up. The track opens at 7 a.m. with races starting at:

• 10:30 a.m.: Boys Division 3
• 11 a.m.: Girls Division 4
• 11:30 a.m.: Girls Division 3
• 12:15 p.m.: Division 3-4 awards presentation
• 1:30 p.m.: Boys Division 2

• 2:30 p.m.: Girls Division 2
