Royal Oak wrestler Tyler McCullough won the Patch Athlete of the Week title for Feb. 6-11 with 1,026 votes after a week of unscientific polling among Patch readers in Oakland County, or 41 percent of the votes cast last week.
He edged out Aarica McCray from Berkley, who had 38% of the votes (934 votes).
The senior wrestler had a busy and successful week. He won a district championship on Saturday at Birmingham Groves in the 125-pound bracket.
He won a 4-2 decision over Mark Wise of University of Detroit Jesuit in the finals and moves on to regionals next Saturday at L’Anese Cruese. Earlier in the week, he won both of his matches for the Ravens at the team districts on Thursday to help his team move on to regionals.
