Looking Ahead to Fall: Groves Tennis Young But Talented

The Falcons tennis squad has finished among the top 10 in the state for the past few years, a hefty legacy to live up to.

The Falcons boys tennis team will be young, but talented this year.

“We have a lot of youth in the fold this season, however that youth is very talented, so we’re excited” said Scott Ransome, Groves' fifth-year head coach. “I can’t wait to see how this team does out on the court.”

Since Ransome took over the program in 2007, the Falcons have never finished outside of the state’s top 10 at the end of the season. Last season, Groves finished eighth in the state.

Blaine Stannerd is the Falcons’ No. 1 singles player, while the tandem of Calvin Greer and Alex Allen make up the squad’s top doubles team.

Ransome is very high on the threesome.

“With Stannard as my top singles player and Greer and Allen as my best doubles team, we’re very strong up top,” he said. “The young kids in the program will learn a lot from them.”
