Groves, Detroit Country Day Soccer Teams Clinch District Titles

Groves defeats Berkley in overtime Friday night while Detroit Country Day beats Pontiac Notre Dame Prep 4-1.

The Groves High School and Detroit Country Day boys soccer teams are moving ahead in the state playoffs, after clinching wins in MHSAA district championship games Friday night.

Groves defeated Berkley 3-2 in overtime during a cold and rainy Friday night match at Berkley.

Groves now moves onto the regional tournament, facing Macomb L'Anse Creuse North at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Fraser. The winner of that match will play the winner of the Grosse Pointe South and Utica Ford game next Friday.

Detroit Country Day, meanwhile, defeated Pontiac Notre Dame Prep 4-1 Friday night, clinching a Division 3 district championship. The Yellowjackets will play at 8 p.m. Tuesday.
