Falcons Dominate, Lead Bloomfield Black Hawks 34-13

The Birmingham Groves season opener was cut short by Friday's thunderstorms; second half to resume Saturday at 11 a.m.

The threat of rain and lightning appeared to be the only thing that could stop Birmingham Groves Friday night as the Falcons soared to a commanding 34-13 lead  during the 2013-14 season opener at Bloomfield Hills High School.

With thunderstorms looming and lightning bolts streaking across the cloudy night sky, school officials stopped the inaugural game between the near-town rivals just before the second-half kickoff and evacuated Dauch Field.

Many Groves faithful were among those that took refuge inside the old Lahser High School while the heavy rain pelted the Metro Detroit area Friday evening. The game will resume today at 11 a.m.

The Falcons scored on the first play from scrimmage and held a commanding 34-6 lead until the Black Hawks mustered a touchdown with just 10 seconds remaining in the second quarter of the first football game for the newly consolidated Bloomfield Hills High School.
