Country Day, Roeper Girls Make Strong Showing in Early Basketball Rankings

The season has just begun but already the lady Yellowjackets and Roughriders are making a mark on the girls basketball scene.

This week brought good news for the girls basketball teams from Beverly Hills' Detroit Country Day and Birmingham's Roeper Upper School, both of which were named top in the state and county.

On Tuesday, the Michigan Associated Press released its poll of the top girls basketball teams in the state, based on class. In Class B play, the lady Yellowjackets from Detroit Country Day came in ninth.

With a 4-2 record, the Yellowjackets received 26 points in the AP poll. Leading the Class B poll was Goodrich with a record of 7-1. Goodrich has long been known to Detroit Country Day. Last spring, Goodrich stopped Country Day's tournament run for the second year in a row by defeating them in the quarterfinals.
