Seaholm placed well in  the first four events with 201 points, finishing second in the 200-yard medley relay while senior Spencer Rogers won the 50 freestyle.

Seaholm coach Tom Wylie said Seaholm's swimmers weren't completely rested before Friday night's event, giving them a good idea how much they'll have to improve before state finals.

"Today we had to learn in how we swam (and) apply that toward states,” Wyllie said. “It was a great win for us."

The defending state champions, Groves, put on an impressive show themselves, sweeping the relays and winning the medley relay, the 200-free relay and setting a new OAA record in the 400-free relay with a 3:10:72 finish. Groves senior Rob McGowan also set a new pool record with a time of 46.56 in the 100 free swim.

“We rose to the occasion today and we have come a long way since Thanksgiving and we did what we had to do,” Groves Coach Emerald Tide said. “For us this is our last meet before we get really excited for state meets. It is for us every year, and Seaholm being tough, we are going against some real good competition."

For Seaholm, it marks the second time they have beaten Groves this season, beating them and several other county teams at the Oakland County swim meet Feb. 5.

Groves and Seaholm now move on to the Division 2 state finals meet at Eastern Michigan University March 11-12.
