Birmingham-Area Squash Players Finish Strong During Youth Tournament

Several Birmingham- and Bloomfield-area young squash players place at the top of the age brackets during a tournament in St. Louis.

Several Birmingham-area young squash players recently made a statement at a national level, scoring high at a junior squash tournament in St. Louis.

More than 160 players from California, Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, Ohio and Pennsylvania competed in the St. Louis Gold tournament last weekend, a tournament sanctioned by U.S. Squash.

Fourteen of those players were from the Birmingham Athletic Club, which recently .

During the St. Louis Gold, 10-year-old Bloomfield Village resident Andrew Barr went undefeated, eventually winning the Boys Under 11 division.

Meanwhile, the Dadabbo sisters made their mark on the competition. Aryanna Dadabbo, 14, placed fourth in the Girls Under 15 divison while her sister, 16-year-old Tatyanna, competed in the Girls Under 19 Division and earned a fifth place finish.

Tatyanna, who along with her sister is from Bloomfield Village, is currently ranked No. 8 in the country.

Meanwhile, Birmingham residents Carson Claar and Nate Moll also competed during the weekend tournament, placing seventh and eighth, respectively, in the Boys Under 13 division.

This isn't the first time youth squash players from the Birmingham Athletic Club have made a statement on the national squash scene. In November 2011, Tatayanna won first place in the Girls Under 19 division at the Deroy Junior Open. Barr and Claar also placed during that tournament.
