Winter Weather Closes Birmingham Public Schools Monday

A Winter Weather Advisory expired at 6 a.m. Monday though several area schools, including Birmingham Public Schools and many private schools, are closed.

UPDATED - Students: rejoice. After a night of snow and freezing rain, Birmingham Public Schools has closed for the day.

Also closed on Monday morning is:

  • Roeper Lower and Upper School
  • Holy Name Catholic School
  • Our Shepherd Lutheran School
  • Eton Academy
  • Detroit Country Day
  • Brother Rice High School
  • Cranbrook Schools
  • Marian High School
  • St. Hugo of the Hills

Nearby districts like Bloomfield Hills, Troy and Royal Oak are also closed.

A Winter Weather Advisory expired at 6 a.m. Monday after several inches of snow fell overnight, turning into freezing rain in areas. The transition to regular rain is expected to happen around sunrise, the National Weather Service says.

According to the National Weather Service, travel can become difficult during a Winter Weather Advisory, particularly due to slippery roads and limited visibility.

On Monday, there's a 50 percent chance of rain before 8 a.m., followed by periods of drizzing. It could become foggy after 8 a.m. Otherwise, the skies will be cloudy with high of 47 degrees.
