Viewfinder: Signs of a New School Year Sprout at Shops, Fields, Grounds

Summer wraps up this week for Birmingham students, educators and parents.

Back-to-school prep isn't just about shopping for slacks, shirts, sneakers and sticks with 4 GB storage. Local activities also involve team drills, grounds fix-up, registration and administrative work this month.

Students and parents from , Marian, , Brother Rice and various other schools have been attending orientation and registration at both Birmingham high schools, fall athletes have been on the playing field preparing for the first batch of games, while teachers — beginning Tuesday — have already gone back to school for their preparation days.
