The voters forum begins at 7 p.m. and is hosted by the League of Women Voters' Oakland chapter

The three candidates running for the Birmingham Board of Education will meet Thursday evening at a voters forum hosted by the League of Women Voters Oakland.

The forums begins at 7 p.m. Sept. 20 at the district's administrative offices on West Merrill.

There are three candidates running for two open spots on the board. School board members in Birmingham serve four-year terms. In the running are:

Geri Rinschler

  • Incumbent
  • On the school board since 1996
  • Currently serving as the board's Legislative Relations Network member
  • Birmingham resident

Michael Fenberg

  • Incumbent
  • On the school board since 2004
  • Currently serving as school board president
  • Birmingham resident

Mary Blake

  • Challenger
  • Bloomfield Hills resident

A fourth candidate, Jack Connelly, applied to run for the school board this November, however announced in an email sent to district administrators Monday that he was dropping out of the race due to professional obligations.

During the candidate forum, the public will be invited to submit questions to the candidates.

The race for the Birmingham Board of Education is the only local race slated for the November general election in Birmingham. Nearby local races include the Beverly Hills Village Council, and the Bloomfield Hills Board of Education.
