Need to Know: Dates for the 2012-13 School Year

Want to schedule a dentist appointment or plan a family vacation around spring break next year? Get out your calendar because we have the dates you've been looking for.

Starting Sept. 4, school is back in session for the students in the . It's never too early to begin planning, so here are the dates you need to know for the 2011-12 school year.

September

  • Sept. 4: First day of school for students
  • Sept. 4-6: Kindergarten assessment; kindergarten students attend only in the morning
  • Sept. 19: curriculum night
  • Sept. 20: 90-minute delayed start
  • Sept. 20: curriculum night

October

  • Oct. 5: No school for elementary students
  • Oct. 9-26: MEAP testing for elementary and middle school students
  • Oct. 11: Groves conferences
  • Oct. 17: Seaholm conferences
  • Oct. 17: MEAP testing for 9th graders

November

  • Nov. 5: End of first quarter for elementary, Birmingham Covington School (BCS) and middle school students
  • Nov. 6: No school for elementary, BCS and middle school students
  • Nov. 13-14: Middle school conferences; students attend in the morning only on Nov. 13
  • Nov. 15: Elementary and BCS conferences; students attend in the morning only
  • Nov. 16-20: High school exams; students attend half- and full-days
  • Nov. 20: End of first trimester for high school students
  • Nov. 21-23: Thanksgiving break; no school
  • Nov. 26: No school for high school students

December

  • Dec. 3: Groves curriculum night
  • Dec. 4: 90 minutes delayed start
  • Dec. 6: Seaholm curriculum night
  • Dec. 24-Jan. 2: Winter break; no school

January

  • Jan 21: No school (Martin Luther King, Jr. Day)
  • Jan. 23: Groves conferences
  • Jan. 24: Seaholm conferences
  • Jan. 25: End of second quarter for elementary, BCS and middle school students; students attend in the morning only

February

  • Feb. 7: 90 minute delayed start
  • Feb. 18-22: Midwinter break; no school

March

  • March 5: High school MME testing for 11th graders; no school for students in 9th, 10th and 12th grade
  • March 6-7: High school MME testing for 11th graders; late-start for students in 9th, 10th and 12th grade
  • March 6-7: Middle school conferences
  • March 12-14: High school exams; students attend full- and half-days
  • March 15: No school for high school students
  • March 29-April 5: Spring break; no school

April 

  • April 11: End of third quarter for BCS and middle school students
  • April 12: End of third quarter for elementary students; no school for BCS and middle school students
  • April 30: 90 minutes delayed start

May

  • May 2: High school conferences
  • May 27: No school (Memorial Day)

June

  • June 2: High school graduation ceremonies
  • June 11-12: High school exams; students attend in the morning only
  • June 13: Last day of school; students attend in the morning only
